Less than a week after getting the big-league call-up, Jo Adell had a moment that he hopes will go down as the most embarrassing moment of his (very promising) MLB career.
Adell — who entered this season as the No. 3 prospect in baseball according to Baseball America — got the start in right field on Sunday for the Los Angeles Angels against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.
Well, in the bottom of the fifth, the Rangers’ Nick Solak hit a flyball to right field. Adell took a rough route on the flyball, but still appeared to have it under control on the track. However, the ball bounced off his glove, and landed over the right field wall, several feet away.
Technically, this was ruled as a four-base error, which you certainly don’t see often.
Similar to Jose Canseco’s gaffe (ironically while with the Rangers) in 1993, but at least Adell’s miscue didn’t go off the noggin.
And, incredibly, it was probably not even the most embarrassing play from an outfielder on a “home run” over the last few days.
