New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone fell on the wrong end of a bizarre ejection on Monday. His explanation afterward was justified and caught the attention of everyone who saw it.
During New York’s Monday matinee against the Oakland Athletics, home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt tossed Boone very early on in the game—like five pitches into the game. That’s how early we’re talking.
Boone deemed the situation “embarrassing” in his postgame press conference. YES Network reporter Meredith Marakovits asked Boone if he could wrap his head around all of it. He flatly said it was hard to and then later explained his point of view.
Marakovits later asked Boone if this situation would prompt a response to Major League Baseball. The Yankees manager indicated that, “Yes,” they would try to contact MLB about this situation.
Umpiring and accountability with umpiring continue to be persistent issues in MLB. Angel Hernandez and his frequent absurdities become a topic virtually everyday. And with all that said, MLB continues to stand pat and do relatively nothing about it.
It doesn’t help either that Wendelstedt doubled down after the game and provided an even worse explanation.
The MLB world had much to say about Aaron Boone and his response to the ’embarrassing’ ejection that overtook the headlines on Monday afternoon.
