Canadian football is a combination of American football and rugby. The latter was the main influence for its creation. Many researchers claim that it is a variation of that sport discipline because, in part, some basic aspects were taken up regarding the development of the game and the technique of mobilizing the players. In American football, the most similar factor is the scoring system.

This sport discipline has as its maximum organization the Canadian Football League (CFL), one of the most popular events in Canada, due in part to its popularity. As in other major sports, betting based on the odds is common. It adds an extra thrill to the game. People make use of online betting sites such as Betway Canada, which gives you the opportunity to bet on your favorite CFL team in a practical and safe way.

CFL carries out the most important football championship in that country. It is made up of nine teams from different cities, those in the Eastern and Western divisions.

The regular season starts in June and ends in mid-October. The first six places in the ranking go on to play for the championship the following three weeks, all in the fight to obtain the so longed-for Grey Cup, the highest award given by the league.

The 9 teams that currently make up the CFL are: Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Eskimos, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Ottawa Redblacks.

The team with the most championships, and one of the oldest, is the Toronto Argonauts, created in 1883. It currently has 17 Grey Cup wins and is based at BMO Field. It has long been a rivalry with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Another of the most successful teams is Edmonton Eskimos with 15 championships won based at Commonwealth Stadium. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are the current winners of the Grey Cup, a team founded in 1930 with a record 11 championships won and currently playing at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg after its previous home was demolished.

One of the teams that has reached the most consecutive playoffs in recent seasons is the Montreal Alouettes, although it has only won the Grey Cup seven times. Currently, they play in the Molson State in the regular season and for the postseason they are based in the Olympic Stadium.
