Cross-town high school football rivalries often bring out a bit more intensity in teams, but nobody was prepared for what would happen last week when California high school football rivals Pacifica and Oxnard faced off on Friday night.
The game itself was rather lopsided as Pacifica, a school also located in Oxnard, defeated Oxnard by a blowout score of 42-14 to complete its undefeated regular season, improving its 10-0 on the season before the playoffs. But as the teams lingered on the field for post-game handshakes, an absolutely massive brawl broke out.
Coaches, officials, and administrators tried their best to break up the fight, but the brawl quickly grew out of control and even spilled onto the track just in front of the spectators. The scuffled involved too many players to count and even saw players kicked and tramped while on the ground.
The fight quickly went viral with the video seen by nearly 100,000 people on Instagram, and people offered their reactions on social media.
Oxnard had nothing to play for and caused the fight. If you penalize Pacifica, Oxnard should be penalized as well, even if their season is over.

Moon told The Star on Saturday that he had planned punishment for certain players, including game suspensions. He spoke at length with Oxnard principal Ted Lawrence, the former Pacifica principal.

While Oxnard’s season is over, Pacifica is set to host a CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoff game Friday and will now likely be missing multiple players due to suspensions from the fight.
