A high school football game between Dunbar High School and Loyola Blakefield School in Baltimore, Maryland was abruptly halted on Friday night after gunshots were heard close to the stadium.
Fox Baltimore captured video of the scary incident on social media, which shows the game go into chaos as numerous rounds of gunshots were heard quite clearly through the video feed of the game.
All of the players and fans in attendance luckily were not harmed in the incident. But according to CBS News Baltimore, a 12-year-old boy was shot near Dunbar High Football Field.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley spoke to CBS News Baltimore, detailing that thankfully the victim in the shooting was quickly rushed to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
Worley also stated that unfortunately, they are still searching for who is behind the shooting.
“As far as we know, there was only one shooter. We’re not sure,” Worley told reporters.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott also issued a statement to reporters retrieved by CBS News Baltimore, where he spoke about the situation.
“This is folks’ neighborhood, right? It’s a beautiful night and folks are going to be outside, and they should be able to do that without someone cowardly coming and just shooting at them whether they were at the game or not,” Scott said. “We want young people to be outside having fun after school their first week of school. This is not how this young man should have ended that week.”
It is of course great that things didn’t end up worse in this incident. But it is obviously extremely terrifying that both student-athletes and fans in attendance can no longer feel safe playing for their high school football team.
