One of the hottest football prospects in the Class of 2023 is quarterback Arch Manning. The nephew of Peyton and Eli is a five-star recruit been racking up offers from some of the top schools in the nation as he prepares for his senior season at Isidore Newman High School.
The 6’4″, 215-pound quarterback is widely considered the No. 1 signal-caller in the nation and some of the biggest names in the sport have been showering him with attention in the hopes he’ll decide to play college ball with them.
In mid-January, On3 reported that Manning was favoring five schools, the Texas Longhorns, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, and Clemson Tigers. Now, Steve Wiltfong at 24/7 is reporting that Manning has trimmed that list down to four schools.
“The New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman blue-chipper has Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas near the top of his list,” writes Wiltfong. “There is evidence he is also narrowing his list recently removing Clemson, another program he visited twice from consideration.”
It’s not hugely surprising as Clemson had a “down year,” at least by their standards, and Manning may also want to focus on attending an SEC school in order to maximize his potential and ability to win a national title.
The longstanding assumption is that Manning won’t make a selection until at least the spring, possibly the summer. He’s expected to visit some or all of those schools during spring practice in order to get a sense of what they’re like. In the meantime, pretty much every visit he takes and every decision he makes is going to be scrutinized until the newest Manning makes his pick.
