A major change is coming to the All-American Bowl starting in 2025.
The game, held every January in San Antonio, is an annual showcase of the nation’s best high school seniors.
Starting in 2025, however, the All-American Bowl will expand to also include high school juniors. 247Sports reported the news Monday.
“Given the changing landscape at the collegiate level, our senior participants are graduating high school earlier and enrolling in and attending college as early as December. As a result, the All-American Bowl is pivoting to now include top juniors for the upcoming 2025 All-American Bowl. This change will allow more top juniors to make their college declarations on network television,” Jon Miller, president of Acquisitions and Partnerships for NBC Sports, said in a press release. Established in 2000 and held in San Antonio since 2002, seventeen players from the All-American Bowl have gone on to be Heisman finalists in their college careers and more than 450 All-Americans later played in the NFL.
The game being aired on NBC and streamed on Peacock has led to it becoming one of the hot spots for recruits to announce verbal commitments in addition to being a great opportunity for college coaching staffs to continue recruiting players who have not decided by January, bolstering their rosters with late additions.
