Tiger Woods has made his feelings clear about the LIV Golf League. He turned down a reported offer of more than $700 million to join a new venture and has openly criticized LIV commissioner Greg Norman.
Given Woods’ feelings, perhaps it’s no surprise that his agent, Mark Steinberg, wants no part of the controversial Saudi-backed golf league. According to The New York Post, Steinberg unceremoniously dropped one of his longtime golfing clients, Thomas Pieters, after he recently defected to LIV.
Pieters, the No. 34 ranked golfer in the world at the time of his defection, learned the news as he arrived this week in Mexico for his first LIV event.
According to The Post, an “underling” delivered the news. In other words, Steinberg didn’t even bother to call. Ouch.
Pieters told golf reporter Alan Shipnuck, “Weirdest thing ever. He’s just gone.”
Shipnuck asked the obvious follow-up question: Did Steinberg take a cut of his LIV signing bonus before dumping him?
“No,” Pieters said with a laugh. “If he did, I would have tweeted that myself.”
Golf fans on Twitter wondered if Pieters even needs an agent now given the big money being tossed around by the LIV organizers.
More money from LIV for Thomas Pieters then.
