Sergio Garcia will be eligible for the Golf Hall of Fame in just a few years, but the 2017 Masters champ made a surprising admission.
Garcia thinks his involvement with LIV Golf may hamper his chances of getting in.
“I went to LIV, so I’m probably a little behind,” Garcia said. “Even though things are settling down. If I didn’t go to LIV and everything that happened, probably me.”
He may be right. PGA players are still pretty resentful towards Garcia and others who jumped ship and joined LIV, but maybe after a few years and cooler heads prevail, Garcia may have more of a shot of making the Hall of Fame by 2026.
If he doesn’t get in, Garcia feels like Australian Adam Scott, who will also be on the ballot, has the best chance of making it over him.
Scott has 29 wins worldwide, including the 2013 Masters and the 2004 Players Championship.
Depending on how things play out, several LIV players may not make the Golf Hall of Fame anytime soon, which would be a shame.
The careers of several golfers were put on the line when they decided to leave the PGA Tour, and despite the merger, many current PGA players won’t forget nor forgive that power play anytime soon.
