The world woke up to the news that current Masters champion Scottie Scheffler had been arrested this morning at Valhalla Golf Course before the start of the second round of the PGA Championship.
In his rush to get to his tee team, Scheffler was arrested by the Louisville Police Department and charged with 2nd-degree assault, 3rd-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from a police officer.
There was an accident near the golf course early Friday morning when a pedestrian was struck and killed, which was why there was heavy traffic at the golf course.
In his attempt to get into the golf course, Scheffler was stopped by the police when he tried to bypass them, and that’s when the chaos happened.
Scheffler was then arrested and detained by the Louisville Police Department but was later released.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington caught the incident on his phone and when he tried to find out what was going on, the police told him to back away, and one police officer told him ” he’s going to jail and there was nothing you can do about it.”
The accident and the weather have caused a delay in the start of Friday’s play which Scheffler was five shots behind the lead. He shot a 67 on Thursday.
No word from the PGA as to what they plan to do and if Scheffler will be punished. Scheffer is currently the world’s No. 1 player.
