Round one of the 2023 U.S. Open kicked off on Thursday at Los Angeles Country Club, and several players have been stumped by the challenging course with some poor rounds. However, PGA Tour golfer Sam Burns found some magic on hole No. 15 with an unbelievable hole-in-one
Burns is known by most as a highly talented player among the better players on the PGA Tour, recording five victories in his career. He enters the tournament as the No. 12 PGA Tour FedExCup Standings player.
He is seeking his first major championship victory in this event, and his terrific shot on the 15th hole should help him make a push up the leaderboards.
Burns hit his first shot on the par-3 15th just past the hole and put some spin on the image, leading to the ball rolling right back into the hole for the ace.
His reaction to the shot says it all, throwing his club in the air and exciting the crowd. He then shared several high-fives with everyone in the area, including his caddie and his fellow players in his group.
Many around the golf world took to social media, praising Burns for the terrific shot.
Burns wasn’t the first one to score a hole-in-one on the hole. French golfer Matthieu Pavon hit a similarly impressive shot on the spot earlier in the day for the ace.
Burns’ hole-in-one marked a historic feat for the U.S. Open event. It keeps just the third U.S. Open in the last 40 years with multiple hole-in-ones on the same hole in the same round.
Like the rest of the field, Burns is trailing Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler in the opening round, who are tied for the lead with a historically significant eight-under-par round.
