The rumors may be true after all. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods didn’t speak to each other while on the golf course at the PGA Championship, which started Thursday.
As the two passed each other on the golf course, there were no pleasantries between the two friends.
There are rumors that the icy reception between iciness came after McIlroy resigned from his position on the PGA Board a few months ago.
Despite having earned a paycheck for his loyalty to the tour, McIlroy seems to have softened toward LIV Golf, which may have strained his relationship with Woods.
McIlroy’s desire to rejoin the PGA Board may have added to the tension between the two. When he wasn’t allowed to rejoin, some thought Woods was one of the people who did not want him back on the board.
The pair have been friends for a while and even have gone into business together, but McIlroy’s seemingly changing views on the future of golf have jeopardized his friendship with Woods.
Even though he has become a major player on and off the course, the PGA Board clearly values Woods’s leadership and popularity more than McIlroy’s. That being said, we’ll see if there’s more smoke here. There was certainly reason to think that something awry was going on. But, only time will tell.
