Michael Block, the head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, had a great week at the PGA Championship. Finishing in a tie for 15th place, he earned close to $300,000 and a place in next year’s event.
But while fans can look forward to seeing Block tee it up at Valhalla in 2024, it won’t be that long before we see him on tour again.
Shortly after the PGA Championship came to an end, it was announced that Block had been invited to the PGA Tour’s next event, the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
As would be expected, Block was emotional when he got the call from Tournament Director Michael Tothe, extending the invitation to play at Colonial.
He was not the only one. Block earned an immeasurable over the week at Oak Hill. The news that he’ll be in the field at Colonial was met with a lot of happiness.
Block turned into a real-life example of Kevin Costner’s Roy McAvoy from 1996’s Tin Cup. His entire traveling party booked a return flight to Southern California for Saturday, thinking he’d miss the cut. Instead, he was one of the best players of the week, easily winning the low Low Club Professional prize and was the week’s best story.
