The Masters golf tournament which annually takes place in April in Augusta,Ga, made a huge announcement regarding LIV players to play in next year’s tournament.
It appears despite the rift between the PGA and LIV Tour players, the tournament will allow those players to participate in next year’s tournament.
“Regrettably, recent actions have divided men’s professional golf by diminishing the virtues of the game and the meaningful legacies of those who built it,” Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley wrote in a statement. “Although we are disappointed in these developments, our focus is to honor the tradition of bringing together a preeminent field of golfers this coming April.”
As of now, 16 players on the LIV Tour would be eligible to play in The Masters including past winners Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, and Bubba Watson.
So what does that mean for the rest of the PGA? How will players like Tiger Woods who have been against the LIV Tour from the beginning feel about players from the other tour playing in this tournament?
And how will the PGA respond? They could put a stop to all of this if they wanted to and tell the tournament that they won’t allow it.
But if it is allowed, will that open the door for other tournaments in the future to do the same? The Masters may have just opened a Pandora’s Box with their decision that could have a ripple effect across the PGA.
