Ever since the PGA Tour and LIV Golf announced a merger between the two leagues last month, there has been plenty of talk about who is now the real decision-maker leading the way. And one prominent LIV Golf doesn’t think that person will be PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.
After the announcement, many on the PGA Tour side of things claimed that Jay Monahan will now be in control of the organization as the CEO. But LIV Golf star Richard Bland doesn’t think that will actually be the case. He thinks Yasir Al-Rumayyan of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will ultimately make the final calls as the new entity’s chairman.
“I feel that’s the PGA Tour just posturing a little, flexing their muscles to show that ‘we are the boss’, but we all know that Yasir’s going to be the boss. Where’s the money going to come from? That’s usually the boss man, and that’s going to be Yasir,” Bland said according to Golf Monthly.
That led to Bland giving a pretty brutal message to anyone expecting LIV Golf to disband sometime in the future.
“Jimmy Dunne was quoted as saying if Jay wants to disband LIV, he can. I don’t believe that for a second. I think Yasir’s invested too much time, too much money in it to go, ‘Yeah, OK, if that’s what you want to do, then that’s what we’ll do.’”
