Buffalo Bills star Jordan Poyer had planned to hold a charity golf tournament at the Blue Monster Course at Trump National Doral Golf Club. However, his plans have changed after receiving backlash for the location of the event
Poyer’s management company, Avalon Sports, issued a statement on this decision, saying that it is unfortunate that “individuals tried to make it a political battle”.
“We would like to inform the general public and media outlets that the Jordan Poyer Celebrity Tournament scheduled to take place on July 10th has been rescheduled for next year. Our main goal was to raise funds for the Buffalo community.
“This years’ event was being held at one of Jordan’s favorite courses in South Florida. The Blue Monster at Trump National in Doral Florida. Unfortunately, we were sadly surprised by negative comments by some individuals trying to make this a political battle and continue to divide our community.”

Poyer also took to social media to clarify the reasoning for the cancellation. He revealed that a number of teams originally scheduled to play in the event withdraw, and wrote emails to one of the sponsors of the event to complain about the location of the tournament. This led to the sponsor pulling out which led to the cancellation.
“They decided they didn’t want to take part in my tournament in which they took part in last year because of where it’s at, at Trump National Doral in South Florida,” Poyer said on Instagram. “ECMC decided they can no longer take the pressure from up top, from the people above them and it probably has nothing to do with ECMC at all.”
The Blue Monster course has long been regarded as one of the best courses in the world, so it makes sense why Poyer wanted the event to be held there. It notably played host to the Doral Open on the PGA Tour from 1962 to 2006.
Donald Trump is obviously seen as a controversial figure by some, so this decision isn’t exactly all that shocking.
Regardless, it is obviously very disappointing to see a charity event where proceeds would go to a good cause get canceled.
