Last week, Eric Trump made it clear that he and his father, former United States President Donald Trump, would be very receptive to hosting a future LIV Golf event at the Doonbeg Links in Co. Clare, which is owned by Trump. And it sounds like that interest is mutual.
This week, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman spoke about the possibility of LIV Golf playing an event in Ireland in the future. Norman confirmed that an event in Ireland is something the league would consider in the next 2-5 years.
“We’re looking at 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 now,” Norman told the BBC. “The popularity and success have spoken for itself so yes, countries like Ireland who are passionate golf countries, passionate destination countries, not only for Americans but for Europeans to go play there.
“I’ve built golf courses there which I’m very proud of, so from my perspective, we’re going to keep all options open.”
As Norman mentioned, the Doonbeg Links course that is currently owned by Trump was “originally designed” by Norman. So it’s likely that the LIV Golf CEO would be drawn to that course. Plus, LIV Golf has played multiple events on Trump golf courses before, so the relationship already exists.
