After 11 years on the PGA Tour, Brian Harman finally captured a major championship when he won the 2023 Open Championship in July, and it’s safe to say it has changed his life.
Meeting with the media Wednesday prior to this weekend’s first FedEx Cup Playoff event, the FedEx St. Jude Invitational, Harman reflected on how different things have been since the win, as GOLF.com wrote that he said, “I will say, life is better as a major champion than not. It’s been a wild ride, man.” Harman added, “There’s different layers to it sinking in, I went to visit my family and we rented a lakehouse and after a few days everything started feeling normal, and then I go home and have this overwhelming support and a meet and greet at the airport, then it takes a few days for that to sink in.”
Harman also noticed a change between his fellow PGA Tour members this week, saying, “Yesterday, I came out here to hit balls, and I was seeing all of my fellow players, and it’s the first time I had seen them, and everyone was congratulating me. It’ll be another few days to try to let all that sink in.”
The former Georgia Bulldog 2nd-team All-American is taking good care of the Open’s Claret Jug trophy, noting that it has a prime spot in his home, “I’ve kept the Claret Jug right on our kitchen counter. My wife has asked me to move it several times and that’s a hard no, it’s going to stay right there.”
Harman tees off at 12:56 p.m. on Thursday as he’ll be joined by Max Homa and Windham Clark in his group.
