The war of words between golfers who remain on the PGA Tour and those who have left for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series rages on.
PGA Tour golfer Billy Horschel is no stranger to making his opinion known when it comes to golfers who took the money to play for the upstart golf series. Back in July, he told reporters that LIV Golf players who try to make it sound like their reason for leaving isn’t money are “hypocrites.”
“There’s a lot of guys that are hypocrites that aren’t telling the truth,” said Horschel. “That are lying about some things that I can’t stand to just sit here and be diplomatic about it.”
On Wednesday, Horschel doubled down, saying that any LIV Golf player who claims they might come back to the PGA Tour is either lying or “brainwashed.”
“I’ve said to some of the guys personally, I think they’ve been brainwashed,” Horschel told Golf Channel from the FedEx St. Jude Championship. “The way they feel so adamant that they’re going to be back on the PGA Tour.
“I’ve had some of [the LIV Golfers] tell me, ‘I’ll see you on Tour again.’ I said, ‘No you won’t.'”
On Tuesday, a federal judge denied a temporary restraining order that would have allowed Talor Gooch, Matt Jones, and Hudson Swafford, all LIV Golf participants, to compete in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Many other LIV Golf players are currently suing the PGA Tour over antitrust concerns.
Horschel joins Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas in the latest round of strong comments from PGA Tour players admonishing those that they feel left for the money.
