Colleges and universities across the United States pride themselves in having buildings that evoke pride, history, and every other sophisticated adjective you can think of.
Meanwhile, a university in China just erected a building that makes its students think of bodily functions.
The North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power is responsible for this toilet-shaped monstrosity. The building was designed to be a place for students to hang out and enjoy some natural light. Instead, the new building has been crapped on both in China and here in the U.S.
It’s hard to ignore the toilet-like features of the building. It starts with the tall back, followed by a round building connected to it. To finish it off, the fun is continued with the building’s blue top. According to Chinese media, that was supposed to be the source of natural light.
Over in China, the building has been the source of many jokes on the Chinese social media site, QQ.
One user wrote: ‘Who is so wicked as to design a university building in the shape of a toilet? This time the CCTV pants building and this one would make a good pair!’
While another commented: ‘Whatever it looks like, health and safety is most important.’
And another said: ‘Oh everyone! It looks like a toilet!’
One of the most ironic parts of this story is the fact that the Chinese government recently put in a ban on weird-shaped building. This came after the Chinese were responsible for a number of strange-looking buildings, including one that looked like a pair of pants and another that is in the shape of an old-school cell phone.
This story just smells like someone trying to play a joke.
