Erin Andrews is perhaps the most famous football sideline reporter, and she’s sticking to football. She’s made it clear that she isn’t returning to the sport of baseball. Andrews, who works for FOX, talked about her decision to leave the network’s MLB coverage on her Calm Down podcast with Charissa Thompson.
Andrews worked the 2014 and 2015 World Series for Fox, but signed a new deal with the network in 2016. She decided to step away from baseball in 2016 and focus exclusively on football with the Network after signing the new contract.
Andrews revealed that she felt like she was playing catch-up while working on baseball.
“I found that coming in at the end of the year after, you know, covering football and then jumping [in], I felt like I was doing a disservice to people that were watching at home,” Andrews said, via Awful Announcing. “I felt like there were other people that had covered it all throughout the year that knew the ins and outs.”
Andrews didn’t feel she was properly prepared.
“That’s how I think about with football,” she continued. “If you’re not covering football all year long, and then you’re jumping into the playoffs, you don’t know the storylines. You don’t know what’s going on in the meetings,” she said.“And I just felt like I was not giving what I could give, and what other people could do, like a Kenny Rosenthal.”
“I almost felt stupid,” Andrews admitted. “And the catch-up was really, really hard.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“She was an embarrassment covering baseball several years ago,” one fan wrote on social media.
“16 weeks is too much work for her,” someone else added.
“She’s better off in the NFL coverage. No need to come back to the MLB,” another person added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Andrews ever changes her mind.
