The Florida Atlantic Owls shocked everyone this past season with an incredible NCAA Tournament run, making at all the way to the Final Four as a 9 seed. This impressive run has earned head coach Dusty May a massive contract extension to stay with the program for the foreseeable future.
May has been coaching at FAU since the 2018-19 season. During his tenure with the program, he has already become the school’s all-time leader in coaching wins.
He helped take the Owls to new heights this past season, setting another program record with a 35-4 regular season record. All of these factors have led to the program repaying him with a significant contract extension.
FAU revealed on their team website that they have agreed to terms with May on a whopping ten-year contract extension to stay with the school.
Florida Atlantic Athletics Director Brian White discussed the extension on Saturday, offering some high praise for May in the process.
“What Dusty has accomplished in his first five years at Florida Atlantic is, in my opinion, one of the most remarkable coaching feats in the history of college basketball,” said White. “The exposure that this program’s success has provided for Florida Atlantic University is beyond measure, and we are incredibly excited about the future of FAU men’s basketball under Dusty’s leadership.”
Many around the college basketball world took notice of this extension and offered their opinion on the decision.
FAU surely wants to continue its momentum from an excellent year last season. This appears to be a very good first step in doing so.
