It was eight months ago that Washington, D.C., flipped back to the Republicans, following Donald Trump’s defeat of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in last November’s presidential election.
With Harris’s loss firmly in the rearview mirror, campaign retrospectives are hitting the presses. Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf released 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America on Tuesday.
The book details confidential memos written by Democratic strategist Maria Comella to Harris’s campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, which were obtained by Politico and published in Tuesday morning’s “Politico Playbook.”
The memos even contained a sports media tie-in mentioning The Ringer founder Bill Simmons, who hosts one of the most popular sports podcasts in the country.
Comella warned O’Malley Dillon that the current Harris strategy was not working and that the Democratic nominee should alter her media strategy to showcase herself to different blocks of voters, such as those who engage with Simmons’ content.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Bill lost normal dudes when he gave DeeRay McKeeson 90 minutes to spew racial hate at the height of BLM insanity,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“It may have been smart for Tim Waltz. He would have had to actually prove that he knows sports though,” someone else added.
“They really needed that ‘disproportionately cares about the NBA for some reason’ demographic,” another person added sarcastically.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Dems learn from thier failures in time to capitalize on them in the 2028 election.
