The North Carolina Tar Heels took a big swing when the football program brought in legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick to be the school’s new head football coach. However, it’s looking as if it’ll go down as a swing and a miss.
The Tar Heels’ season has been ugly both on and off the field. Belichick has overseen three blowout losses through the first five games of the campaign, and there’s been no shortage of drama surrounding his relationship with his much younger girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.
Now, it appears that both parties are looking to get out of the disaster before things get even worse. According to Awful Announcing, Belichick has begun negotiating a buyout with the school, provided he is able to land another coaching gig or a spot in the media.
His coaching staff has also reportedly been talking to potential playoff teams about joining their staffs during the postseason.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Unless he’s open to coaching Pee Wee or Pop Warner, your coaching career ends HERE. No one with both halves working is gonna hire you to run their football program after this. Bob Kraft has all but made it clear if he has a say in it, you won’t coach in the NFL again. EVER,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“What network would hire him, knowing he would regularly torch the Patriots and go after Robert Kraft? He’s burned so many bridges,” someone else added.
“Doing studio work with an NFL outlet a possibility. As for coaching, who the hell would touch him now?” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how things go for Belichick from here.
