No. 2 Washington and No. 3 Texas will square off in the Sugar Bowl on Monday night, with both teams looking to punch their ticket into the National Championship Game.
And judging by the latest report, the crowd in New Orleans will likely be decidedly pro-Longhorns.
Citing an email from the University of Washington, Sports Business reporter Darren Rovell reported on Friday night that the Huskies have yet to sell their allotted 20,000 tickets.
“The University of Washington, in an e-mail, says it has not yet sold out of its National Championship allotment of 20,000 tickets to donors and season ticket holders,” Rovell shared on Twitter/X.
The crowd was likely going to be heavily in Texas’ favor anyway. Texas and Louisiana are bordering states and the drive from Austin, where the University of Texas is, to New Orleans is roughly eight hours. Conversely, going from the Pacific Northwest to New Orleans would involve traveling nearly across the country both north to south and east to west.
Having said that, not selling out that allotment this close to the game is surprising. It’s not as though College Football Playoff fatigue is a factor, with Washington appearing for the first time since 2016.
Should they prevail over the Longhorns, hopefully (for their sake) the Huskies will have better luck selling their seats for the National Championship Game in Houston.
