The USC Trojans suffered their second-straight loss of the season on Saturday night when the Utah Utes defeated USC with a last-second field goal by a score of 34-32, and it sounds like that loss was especially hurtful to head coach Lincoln Riley.

During his post-game press conference, Lincoln Riley indicated that this might be the most “gut-wrenching” loss he has ever experienced in his head coaching career.

“This is the first time I’ve come into this room not with a win, so definitely not a feeling that I want to get used to,” Riley said postgame. “As gut-wrenching a defeat as I can remember in my career. Hate it for the guys in there. We fought our tails off.

“We fought so hard, and what a great surge there in the fourth quarter to take the lead. One play away. Give credit to Utah. We’ve had three great games with them. Great competitors. It was a heck of a ballgame. Wish we would have played a little bit cleaner, though.”

The loss almost certainly knocks the Trojans out of contention for the College Football Playoff and puts another serious damper on the Heisman Trophy campaign of star quarterback Caleb Williams.
