As the college football season enters its final days and transfer portal activity continues to buzz along, we appear to be closer to knowing the future of former Washington State Cougars quarterback Cam Ward.
According to On3′s Pete Nakos, Ward will either be joining the Miami Hurricanes or will declare for the NFL Draft.
Ward is the most recent example of a college football success story.
The Columbia, Texas native was lightly recruited out of high school and the only offer he received was from The University of the Incarnate Word.
In six games in the 2020 COVID-shortened season, Ward excelled for the Cardinals, throwing for 24 touchdown passes and capturing the Jerry Rice Award, given annually to the best freshman in the FCS. Ward followed that up by throwing for 4,648 yards and an eye-popping 47 touchdown passes en route to Incarnate Word’s first 10-win season in school history, as the Cardinals went 10-3.
Following that season, Ward transferred to Washington State where he threw for nearly 7,000 yards in his two seasons, ranking sixth in school history for a career. His 47 career touchdown passes put him tied for seventh in school history with Anthony Gordon.
Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke transferred to the Wisconsin Badgers earlier in the offseason, so if Ward was to choose the Hurricanes, he would obviously be the starter for his final season of eligibility.
