Texas Longhorns special teams coach Jeff Banks might have put his foot in his mouth when asked about the Longhorns coming to Tuscaloosa later this year.
The coach compared playing at Alabama to playing at Kansas or Iowa State.
“We’re just going to play another road game. Just as hard in Kansas and Iowa State as it is going to be in Tuscaloosa. It’s just bigger and more people,” he said.
Banks, who used to coach in Tuscaloosa along with head coach Steve Sarkisian, probably didn’t mean anything by what he said and wanted his players not to be nervous playing in front of 100 thousand plus in Tuscaloosa the second week in September. Still, it probably won’t be taken that way.
Some fans on social media took it as an insult that Banks compared playing in Tuscaloosa on Saturday to playing in Lawrence, Kansas, or Ames, Iowa, and fans expressed their disbelief on social media; many think this might be used as bulletin board material.
Comparing Alabama to ku is certainly a choice

Now, some fans pointed out that Texas has struggled with Kansas lately, so maybe that wasn’t an insult after all.

The pair faced each other last year in Austin, with Bama winning in the closing seconds, 20-19. Most expect another close contest this year in Tuscaloosa, where it will probably be a hard sellout.
