The Texas Longhorns and quarterback Arch Manning, the nephew of legendary NFL quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning, were expected to take the college football world by storm this season. Manning entered the season as one of the most hyped quarterbacks of all time, despite having never served a full season as the starter.
ESPN analysts Paul Finebaum and Mel Kiper Jr. were especially high on Manning. Before he took a single snap this season, Finebaum billed Manning as “the best college football quarterback we have seen since Tim Tebow entered the scene in 2006.” Kiper had Manning as the number one overall quarterback in the 2026 draft class.
However, the season did not go as planned for the Longhorns, and they failed to make the College Football Playoff, with Mannning struggling with his consistency throughout the season.
The Texas quarterback has decided to return for his senior season. Unfortunately, he’s taking a pay cut in his return, to help Texas field a “competitive roster,” according to one prominent outlet.
“Sources: Arch Manning taking reduced House payment share to support 2026 championship pursuit Steve Sarkisian isn’t the only one all-in for 2026 in Austin. Texas’ QB is doing his part,” Inside Texas reported on Friday.
This is ridiculous of the football program, considering not only all of the revenue that Manning creates the school as the most recognizable name in college football, but also the enormous amount of resources the school has at its disposal.
The athletic director, university president, and coaching staff could all take pay cuts instead, but instead, it will be the young Arch Manning sacrificing his money for the good of the team.
Hopefully, the move pans out for Manning and fans recognize what an enormous sacrifice he’s making.
