It was a magical season for the TCU Horned Frogs, who finished their season at 12-1 on the back of a terrific year for senior quarterback Max Duggan.
Duggan was able to lead his team into the College Football Playoff, awaiting a matchup against the Michigan Wolverines. He was also listed as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, but he received a different honor in a wholesome way on Thursday night.
It was revealed on Thursday that Duggan has been named the winner of the 2022 Davey O’Brien Award, which is given yearly to the most outstanding quarterback of the college football season.
Duggan learned about the honor in a special way, with his mother revealing the news to him in a video shared by TCU’s social media team.
The standout quarterback was clearly surprised by the news, but the college football world seems to believe that the honor is well deserved for his unbelievable performance this season.
Okay, this is just adorable.
Congrats, @MaxDuggan_10!#gofrogs https://t.co/sIx442NbWZ— Emily Allen (@emehlee) December 9, 2022
Max Duggan winning this award may be a sign of things to come about his chances of potentially winning the Heisman Trophy later this week.
All of the finalists for the Heisman this year are quarterbacks, and Duggan winning the Davey O’Brien award given to the nation’s best quarterback may mean that he has a real chance of winning the Heisman.
If he goes on to do so, he will be only the second player in TCU history to ever win the Heisman Trophy. Funny enough, the other player to do so at TCU was Davey O’Brien, who won the Heisman in 1938.
Duggan is certainly far more concerned about his team’s chances in the College Football Playoff, but it is very nice to see him get his recognition individually.
