Last month, Georgia Bulldogs two-time national champion quarterback Stetson Bennett IV was arrested in the city of Dallas for public intoxication after police responded to a call about a suspicious person banging on people’s doors at about 6:15 a.m. on Jan. 29.
Nearly a month after the arrest of Stetson Bennett IV, the Athens Banner-Herald reported some of the details from the police arrest taken at the police report.
When police arrived at the scene, police found Bennet “walking further back in the gated area to hide behind a brick wall by a random (apartment) in an attempt to possibly avoid (the arresting officers) detection,” according to the police incident report obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald.
Police announced themselves to Bennett multiple times before he ultimately came out from behind the wall. Due to his decision to initially hide from officers, Bennett was placed in handcuffs.
During encounter with police, the police report said that Bennett had a strong odor of alcohol on his “breath and/or body,” and indicated that he was intoxicated enough that “if not arrested, could have potentially become a victim of a crime.”
Police brought Bennet to what was described as a “sobering center” and he was eventually released at 11 a.m. the same day.
