When you think of Florida State Seminoles football, think of Donald Trump.
That’s what Ron DeSantis was going for in a strange metaphor during a recent Fox News interview.
DeSantis compared the former President to the undefeated Florida State football team, using them as a metaphor for how they might be considered one of the best teams right now but they still have to finish the season in order to “earn” a championship. He likened that to Trump, who has been the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination but has a long way to go before he’s sealed the deal.
“I could say, you know, Florida State, they’re undefeated right now. Why even have the rest of the season? Why even do the college football playoffs? I mean, maybe we should just crown the national champion. That’s not the way it works. You got to earn this,” DeSantis said on Fox News’ Your World with Neil Cavuto.
Cavuto added that his son attends Clemson University, one of FSU’s chief rivals, and DeSantis then promised that he wouldn’t mention the Seminoles when he started campaigning in South Carolina in a few months.
DeSantis, who played football in college, has long enjoyed mixing college football into his stump speeches.
