While the Harvard Crimson may see the Yale Bulldogs as their primary rival in the Ivy League, there is still plenty of hate between them and the Princeton Tigers, as well. And when the two teams met on Friday as part of a conference showdown, Princeton pulled out all the stops.
During the first quarter of Friday night’s game, the Princeton Tigers made quite a bold play-calling decision on 2nd-and-8 from near midfield. The team dug deep into its playbook, calling one of the most iconic trick plays in the history of the game: the flea flicker.
The Princeton quarterback handed it to the running back, who took a few steps forward to sell the fake. Then, the running back stopped and tossed the ball back to the quarterback, who dropped back to pass. With the entire defense reacting to what it thought was a running play, the quarterback was able to find a wide-open receiver downfield. As a result, the Tigers scored an easy touchdown and took a 7-0 lead.
It was a perfectly executed trick play, and the college football world was quick to react to it on Twitter.
Princeton went on to win the game easily, beating Harvard 37-10 to remain undefeated on the season.
