The sport of college football is always constantly changing, whether that be NIL deals or the expansion of the transfer portal that has forever changed the landscape of the NCAA. On a much smaller scale, bowl games are always changing sponsors and names as well. The latest bowl game added is based on the popular breakfast snack Pop-Tarts, which many college football fans got a kick out of.
Many college football fans really appreciate some of the more gimmicky bowl games that the sport has to offer. A prime example of that is the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, centered around coaches and fans consuming disgusting amounts of mayonnaise.
The incoming Pop-Tarts Bowl joins that realm, but it will unfortunately also spell the end of a bowl game sponsored by another beloved food brand.
College football insider for The Action Network Brett McMurphy first reported that The Cheez-It Bowl will be replaced in favor of the Pop-Tarts Bowl. He also revealed that it will be matching pitting ACC against the Big 12.
Many around the college football world took notice of the news and had mixed emotions about these changes.
College football bowl games, ranked by tastiness:
1. Pop-Tarts Bowl
2. Sugar Bowl
3. Peach Bowl
4. Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
…
41. Cotton Bowl— Russell Steinberg (@Russ_Steinberg) May 31, 2023
If the marketing team behind the Pop-Tarts Bowl can come up with a fun idea for this game like playing it in the morning or having the coaches have a Pop-Tart eating contest before the game, this could be a game that fans get behind for years to come.
