College football analyst Paul Finebaum has spoken to people who live in Alabama for the past 35 years. Now, he’s considering representing them as a member of the United States Congress.

Finebaum revealed that he is considering a departure from ESPN to run for U.S. Senate in Alabama as a Republican. Finebaum revealed that he’s a registered Republican who voted for President Trump in 2024, which he’d previously kept under wraps.

Finebaum said that political commentator Charlie Kirk’s assassination led him to reevaluate his priorities, saying that in the aftermath, he  “spent four hours numb talking about things that didn’t matter to me.”

“It’s hard to describe, not being involved in politics, how that affected me and affected tens of millions of people all over this country. And it was an awakening,” Finebaum stated, according to Awful Announcing.

“Alabama has always been the place I’ve felt the most welcome, that I’ve cared the most about the people,” he said. “I’ve spoken to people from Alabama for 35 years, and I feel there is a connection that is hard to explain.”

At this point, you got to make a decision on whether to run. The deadline is January at some point in time. …You have dealt in the world of recruiting for a long time. If the President of the United States says, ‘Paul, you’re my guy.’ can you tell him no?” Outkick’s Clay Travis sked Finebaum.

“Impossible to tell him no,” Finebaum responded. “There’s no way I could. I would say yes.”

People reacted to the news on social media.

“I think he will run. Based on his mannerisms and answers, he would not even have revealed this if he didn’t already have the backing of the Alabama GOP. So, consider him out at the SEC Network. Now, you replace him with Marty and McGee M-F. Two guys with decades of experience,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“ESPN needs to drop this guy immediately…the right forced them to run off their ‘wokesters’ and ‘stick to sports’….fair play now on the other side, Feinbaum gone,” one person added.

“See I think that’s a lot of the problem. No one can tell him no. That’s not how life works,” someone else added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Finebaum actually runs for office.
