The Ole Miss football program was dealt some truly horrific news regarding incoming freshman defensive end Corey Adams Jr., who was killed on Saturday night in a shooting.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, who issued a statement on the matter that was retrieved by ESPN, Adams died at the scene in Cordova, Tennessee, just outside of Memphis. Four other men were shot outside a residence and taken to area hospitals. None are listed in critical condition. As of right now, there have been no arrests made after the incident.

The Ole Miss football program also issued a statement on the matter on social media, sharing thoughts and prayers for the loved ones of Adams during the difficult time.

“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee. While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”

Adams came into the program as a three-star commit from New Orleans, earning two all-state honors over the course of his high school career at Edna Karr High School.

Hopefully the family of Corey Adams can soon find some peace after this truly unfortunate news. And hopefully anyone at the Ole Miss football program who grew close to Adams during his time at the program can find a way to manage in light of this unfortunate incident.
