Kansas State scored early and often Saturday, Oklahoma State laid a goose egg, and the result is something not seen in college football since Lyndon B. Johnson roamed the White House.
The Wildcats defeated the No. 9 Cowboys, 48-0 in Manhattan in a brutal beatdown that set a milestone. According to Fox Sports, an AP Top 10 team had not been shut out by 40 or more points since 1968, when No. 11 Cal beat No. 10 Syracuse, 43-0.
K-State could do no wrong in this game and Oklahoma State looked terrible. Running back Deuce Vaughn had a huge day for the Wildcats, rushing for 158 yards and a touchdown and adding a receiving touchdown.
The Wildcats led 35-0 at the half thanks to one big play after another.
The only thing in doubt in the second half seemed to be whether Kansas State could pitch the shutout. The Cowboys had only 54 rushing yards on 30 carries, an anemic 1.8 yards per rush. The passing game didn’t work, either (163 yards).
College football fans were very impressed by Wildcats’ star Vaughn, not so much by Oklahoma State’s performance. “Where are the Oklahoma State fans they’re real quiet now,” one fan tweeted, summing up the mood.
Both teams are now 6-2 on the season, although the loss drops the Cowboys to 3-2 in the Big 12. The Wildcats improve to 4-1 in the conference.
