Like many other major sporting events, the Michigan-Ohio State game Saturday in Ann Arbor featured a military aircraft flyover.

Plenty of people saw it — there were once again more than 100,000 fans in “The Big House” — but no one really remarked on the flyover until a couple of days later, when an incredible photo of the flyover surfaced.

Joe Pompliano, host of The Joe Pomp Show, posted an image of the plane taken by MichiganSkyMedia. He included a description:

“This photo from the flyover at the Michigan-Ohio State game is incredible,” Pompliano wrote. “Michigan used a Boeing P-8 Poseidon for the flyover — a Navy spy plane (lol).”

So to recap, that is a spy plane, flying over a Michigan home game against its biggest rival, as the Wolverines are embroiled in a sign-stealing scandal.

That leads to so many questions: Did Michigan request a special “spy plane” flyover? How do you even do that? Is it even technically a spy plane? Some military aviation buffs disagreed.

Either way, the irony of the aircraft used for the flyover took flight on X/Twitter as fans debated the issue.
