As the Ohio State Buckeyes prepare to take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl, they’ve had to maneuver through some coaching staff changes like so many other programs have.
Earlier this week, offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson accepted the job as head coach at Tulsa. The good news for the Buckeyes is that Wilson will continue to coach for them through the CFP. He has big shoes to fill since he’s been at Ohio State since 2017 when he was hired as a co-offensive coordinator to Ryan Day, who is now Ohio State’s head coach.
It was reported Saturday that as they figure out who will be the next offensive coordinator for OSU, the team is expected to promote Keenan Bailey to tight ends coach. Bailey, who has been stepping into Wilson’s recruiting role in recent days, per Cleveland.com, has been on the Ohio State staff for seven years and spent this past season as senior advisor to the head coach. He was the quality control coach on offense for the prior three seasons.
It’s still unknown who will take over as offensive coordinator when Wilson leaves, though it’s been rumored that receivers coach Brian Hartline could be the favorite. There’s also offensive line coach Justin Frye, who spent time as offensive coordinator at UCLA under Chip Kelly.
