Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is already projected as the top receiver available in the 2024 NFL Draft.
That’s impressive considering he has yet to play his junior season. However, it’s somewhat expected given the pedigree of his father, Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
Though that connection will surely be made by every announcer this fall, many observers will be interested in seeing how the younger Harrison compares to his father who starred with the Indianapolis Colts with quarterback Peyton Manning.
Current Colts wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne is somebody with a unique perspective on the question. Wayne played alongside the elder Harrison for many seasons in Indianapolis. To him, the younger Harrison is already a better prospect than his father at that same age.
“He’s bigger than Marvin,” Wayne told the Indianapolis Star of Jr. “He’s tall. He’s faster than Marv.”
Whether Harrison Jr. lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but it’s undeniable that that is insanely high praise for somebody who played alongside Harrison for as long as Wayne did.
Harrison Sr., for his part, is just trying to build a more humble version of himself.
“It’s a credit to him that he’s worked extremely hard to get to this point,” Marvin Harrison Sr. said. “As a dad, after you’ve played so many years, you want to sit back and watch.”
