After a disappointing end to the season and a Cotton Bowl loss to the Missouri Tigers in which the team only managed to score three points, the Ohio State Buckeyes made a pretty significant hire, bringing in offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to run the offense, with head coach Ryan Day finally ceding control of game-planning and play-calling. It was a massive hire, but it sounds like Ohio State is probably going to have to replace him after less than a month.
According to a report from Rich Thompson of The Boston Herald, Bill O’Brien is expected to leave Ohio State to become the next head coach of the Boston College Eagles.
“Heard @BCFootball and Bill O’Brien are down to the minor details. Possible @ACCFootball announcement on Wednesday. @BosHeraldSports. He won’t come cheap with a lot of incentives,” Thompson said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
This would obviously be pretty horrible news for Ohio State as they would be losing their offensive coordinator who was hand-picked by Ryan Day after less than a month, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
We’ll have to see who Ohio State ends up hiring if O’Brien does leave for Boston College.
