As Alabama head coach Nick Saban enters his 17th season with the Crimson Tide and 47th year in college football, many have wondered if the legendary coach would consider retiring soon.
Don’t count on it.
Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show Thursday, Saban called it “kind of laughable” that people think he might be retiring soon.
The 71-year-old coach added, “I feel great right now. I love it. We’ve got lots of challenges right now. I’m looking forward to it. We’re all in.”
Saban comes off as the type of person who wouldn’t know what to do without having football in his life, not unlike New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. While it’s inevitable that some day both will retire, it’s something that is so hard to imagine until it actually happens.
In his time at Alabama, Saban has made the program one of college football’s powerhouses, to say the least. Saban won three BCS National Championships with Alabama and then tacked on an additional three College Football Playoff Championships.
Saban leads all active coaches with 280 wins as head coach, 190 of which have come at Alabama. He’s been named the SEC Coach of the Year a record five times and has coached four players who would go on to win the Heisman Trophy.
Saban’s comments left social media buzzing on Thursday.
