The University of Alabama announced Friday that it will rename its stadium “Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.”
The stadium was initially named after legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and long-time university president George Denny, who was president during the early 20th century. Now, they will add former head coach Nick Saban.
Saban and his wife, Terry, were flattered that the university would bestow this honor upon him.
“We are humbled that The University of Alabama has honored us with the naming of Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium,” Saban said in a statement.
“The remarkable success that the football program has achieved over the past 17 years reflects the hard work of many student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Being a process leader at Alabama has been the greatest privilege of my life.
Saban added: “Terry and I are grateful for the naming of Saban Field, which forever celebrates our accomplishments.”
Saban has won seven national championships, six at Alabama, with his last coming in 2020. He retired in January 2024 after leading the Crimson Tide to another SEC Championship title and the College Football Playoff against eventual national champion the Michigan Wolverines.
Saban coached the Tide for 17 seasons and was expected to return this upcoming season, but changes to the college football scene made him decide it was time to step down. He will continue to be part of the sport as an ESPN college football analyst.
The dedication will take place September 7th when the Tide faces South Florida.
