The Penn State Nittany Lions have parted ways with long-time head coach James Franklin after things continued spiraling out of control this season. Now, one prominent member of the college football mediasphere is saying he knows exactly where Penn State needs to look to find its next leader.
“Well, I think that Pat Kraft, the Athletic Director at Penn State, is going to take a big swing,” FOX’s Joel Klatt said of the Penn State coaching search, according to Awful Announcing.
“I don’t think that anybody is off of his list, to be quite honest with you. And if I was Pat Kraft, I would start with the biggest swing possible. I know this sounds crazy, but I think the first call I would make is Nick Saban. Just make sure that that’s not going to happen.”
“Again, this is a good job,” Klatt went on. “I don’t know if it’s a great job in college football. But, in this cycle, it’s probably the best.”
Fans reacted to Klatt’s take on social media.
“Those are Saban’s old stomping grounds. Grew up across the border in WV, played college ball at Kent St, coached at Toledo, Ohio St, Michigan St, Syracuse, WVU, and the Cleveland Browns. Does he have the fire to resurrect a 3rd program though at age 74? I think Saban’s done. And, I think he wants to keep his legacy at Alabama. But who knows. Stranger things have happened,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Every big time coaching job should start there. He will probably say no but it’s worth a try,” someone else added.
“They’d have a better chance of hiring the re-animated corpse of Joe PA,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see what direction Penn State goes in.
