Alabama head coach Nick Saban still has a bone to pick about his team missing the College Football Playoff this past season.

Saban’s team barely missed the playoff finishing 5th in the country. Although the Tide would still go to a New Year’s 6 Bowl, not making the playoffs because of two close losses still bothers him to this day, and he questions whether the four best teams really make the playoffs or the four most deserving.

Saban made these remarks in an interview with Fox Sports Joel Klatt.

“So, but the problem with the way the whole system is, there’s no accounting for that, right,” he said. “So, all we do is take the teams that win the most games at the end of the year, put them in the playoffs. But do you really get the best teams? When they told me that we would be favored against three out of the four teams that got in the playoff, I’m like, why aren’t we in the playoffs?”

Saban continued to drag the committee, although he claims he wasn’t being critical of anybody.

“Does that mean they have a better team,” Saban continued. “Or does it mean that those people don’t know what they’re talking about? I really don’t know that. But I’m not being critical of anybody. But if you’re going to have parity, you have to have a better way of figuring out who has the best teams, not just because you lose two games on the last play of the game.

“That knocks you out when you may be better than somebody else who didn’t have the same circumstances that they had played,” he concluded.

Alabama missed the playoff because of two close road losses to Tennessee and LSU, eliminating them from contention. Still, TCU and Ohio State lost at the end of the year, which cracked the door ever so slightly for the Tide at the end of the season.

But when it came down to it, both one-loss teams had more clout than two-loss Bama.
