As the NC State Wolfpack awaits their bowl destination, Dave Doeren’s program will now be down at least one quarterback. A season after losing Devin Leary to the portal, Wolfpack QB MJ Morris followed suit, announcing Thursday that he plans to enter the NCAA Trasnger Portal.
Morris made the announcement on his personal X account.
“I want to thank Jesus Christ for being my lord and personal savior,” Morris’ statement read. “I also would like to thank my teammates and coach DD for loving and standing by my side through the good times and adversity. I will always love and never forget y’all. Finally, I want to thank Wolfpack Nation for their love and support. May God continue to bless you all.
“After many conversations and prayer, I’ve come to the heartfelt decision to enter my name into the transfer portal with three years of eligibility.
“May God’s will be done in my life.”
This past season, Morris served as the primary backup quarterback to Brennan Armstrong, intending to redshirt. After the Virginia transfer struggled, the NC State staff turned to Morris, who provided the Wolfpack with a spark. However, he changed his mind after starting four games and decided to preserve his redshirt.
In four starts this season, Morris completed 63 of 113 attempts (55.8) for 719 yards with seven touchdowns against five interceptions. Combined with last season, Morris completed 57.8 percent of his attempts for a career 1,367 yards with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions, across his time in Raleigh.
With three years of eligibility remaining, the now former NC State quarterback is seeking a fresh start to showcase his talents. With a constant demand for quarterbacks, he should have no trouble finding suitors.
Meanwhile, NC State faces the challenge of filling its void at the quarterback position, either internally or externally.
