Heading into the 2022 college football season, Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson was widely considered the Buckeyes’ leading running back and one of the top backs in the entire nation. However, during Saturday afternoon’s game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, it was second-team running back Miyan Williams that had a record-breaking performance for the Buckeyes.
With his fifth touchdown of the game on Saturday afternoon, Williams tied the Ohio State single-game school record for rushing touchdowns, matching the touchdown totals of legendary Buckeye running backs Keith Byers and Pete Johnson.
Johnson accounted for five touchdowns on the ground during a win over the North Carolina Tar Heels during the 1975 season while Byars matched that production during a game against the Illinois Fighting Illini back in 1984 season.
Williams finished the game with 21 carries for 189 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 9 yards per carry.
Henderson, Ohio State’s first-team running back heading into the 2022 season, was inactive on Saturday with an undisclosed injury. Last season, Henderson totaled 1,248 yards on the ground as just a true freshman, averaging an eye-popping 6.8 yards per carry.
Without its star starting running back, Ohio State had no problem blasting Rutgers on Saturday night to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season as the Buckeyes make a push towards yet another appearance in the College Football Playoff.
