You can officially cross Mike Norvell’s name off the list of potential replacements for Nick Saban at Alabama.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Norvell reaffirmed his commitment to Florida State. Not only that, but according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, the 42-year-old head coach has agreed to a new eight-year contract that will pay him more than $10 million per year.
“GREAT DAY to be a FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE!! The #CLIMBContinues grateful for to lead the #NoleFamily with our incredible staff,” Norvell wrote. “Appreciate @PresMcCullough @SeminoleAlford and @Seminoles for continued commitment on our journey back to the TOP! The Future is bright in Tallahassee.”
Norvell is just the latest college football head coach to reaffirm his commitment to his current school following Saban’s retirement in Tuscaloosa earlier this week. In addition to Norvell, Oregon’s Dan Lanning and Texas’ Steve Sarkisian have also made public statements indicating they aren’t going anywhere this offseason.
In four seasons at Florida State, Norvell has amassed a 31-17 record. In 2023, the Seminoles went 13-0 and won the ACC Championship Game, but were left out of the College Football Playoff before losing to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
Following the news that the reigning Paul “Bear” Bryant Award and Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award winner will be remaining in Tallahassee, many took to social media to weigh in.
Obviously the right move for them BUT everyone should take note of this the next time they cry poor to the ACC in a legal filing https://t.co/7NurgkRhs4
