Michigan football suffered a great loss earlier this December.
The Michigan program lost “Meechie” Walker, a friend of the program’s and a former high school football recruit. Meechie was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in 2020. Earlier this month, Meechie tragically passed away from the disease.
In the 2023 Fiesta Bowl, the Wolverines will honor Meechie. They will honor their fallen friend with a helmet decal placed on the back. The Michigan Football Twitter account revealed the program’s plans to honor him on Friday morning.
They tweeted, “Honoring our friend. Meechie will always be with us.”
The decal features the #45 and “MEECHIE” written across it in big, bold lettering. The decal is maize-colored and features the signature Michigan blue color for the font.
The Wolverines hosted Meechie Walker numerous times over the last two years. Both Big Noon Kickoff on Fox and College Gameday on ESPN shared his incredibly inspiring story.
Michigan will play in the 2023 Fiesta Bowl on December 31 in Glendale, Arizona. The undefeated Big Ten Champion Wolverines got into the CFP with a win over the Purdue Boilermakers. The Wolverines will take on the No. 3-ranked TCU Horned Frogs in the game. TCU earned their trip to the Fiesta Bowl with a 12-1 record and qualified for the CFP without a Big 12 Championship win. The Horned Frogs lost to the Kansas State Wildcats on Championship Saturday.
