The Michigan Wolverines are facing a ton of scrutiny at the moment with all of the controversy surrounding their sign-stealing investigation that is underway. And things are getting even worse within the program, as more information emerged on another investigation Thursday regarding former co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss.
Weiss was fired by the program back in January after it was reported that university police were investigating him for computer access crimes done on school grounds on his personal computer.
Since being fired, not much emerged about the investigation. That is until now, as the university police have now involved the FBI in their investigation.
According to Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press, The University of Michigan police department has been working with the FBI for months to investigate former Michigan football co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss’ computer case.
The school police department stated via email about the incident, calling the investigation “extensive and “of the utmost priority”.
“The University of Michigan Police Department has partnered with the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding the Matt Weiss unauthorized computer access incident,” the police said in the email Thursday. “Currently, the investigation is extensive, ongoing, and is of the utmost priority. Additional information will be provided when available.”
The UM Police Department further added that this investigation has nothing to do with the sign-stealing investigation whatsoever.
There are still a lot of gray areas in this investigation of Weiss’ activity and what exactly his alleged computer access crimes entail.
But it seems to be quite serious considering the FBI is now involved. And it is further drama around the Michigan Athletic Department, which seems to be in absolute shambles at the moment.
